Wyandotte Municipal Services (WMS) has earned the 2012 Energy Innovator Award from the American Public Power Association for its Geothermal Energy system, first made available to WMS electric customers in 2010. Residential and commercial customers can elect to install ground source heat pumps that connect to a closed sub-surface water-circulation system in order to use the earth’s constant temperature range. The GSHP system is reportedly 40-70% more efficient than conventional systems. Jennings Strouss assisted WMS in its contracts with the project developer.
WMS has long been active in exploring alternative energy sources having installed a demonstration roof-top solar project at a local school and having explored new technologies and projects such as biomass generation, anaerobic digester generation and tire-fueled generation.
